This week we are focusing on getting all of our beautiful curing soaps wrapped up and ready to ship out. We ended up getting so many pre-sales for the carrot and coconut milk soap we made, that we ran out of it before June even got here! It really did turn out every bit as nice as we'd hoped it would, with a really creamy lather and joyful citrus scent. My skin has been very soft since I've been using it. We have made another batch with a green and earthy coconut scent, but it won't be ready for another 6 weeks, so June's new Soap of the Month will be the Cream of Tomato Basil Soap that we talked about here. I love how the aroma of basil makes me feel energized, clear-headed, and confident.
This week we are getting settled into our new workshop. It feels great getting organized and preparing our creative space. Though there is still plenty of work to do for us to consider ourselves "ready" to take on the world, I think we are both already surprised at how quickly we can accomplish certain tasks with all this fresh space to work.
Our first creation in the new workshop is a set of balms made with horsetail butter and green tea butter. Remember when we first made them a few weeks ago? (See blog post here.) They've been such a big hit, that we've decided to make these once-exclusive items available to everyone on the website -- they should be up in the shop within the next few days.
The Horsetail Butter Body Balm is full of silica and minerals that help your skin create collagen and elastin, rebuild cells, and is known to be excellent for making skin feel soft and smooth. When I use this balm after my shower, I feel like a magical glowing angel the next day. There might as well be people following me around with mood lighting and high-speed fans to make my hair look like Beyonce's. The Green Tea Butter Body Balm is more focused on protecting your skin from aging and sun damage with powerful antioxidants. It contains xanthines, which are naturally soothing to irritated and inflamed skin, making it great for people who suffer from eczema or psoriasis or have sensitive skin that is prone to damage and inflammation. Unfortunately, I'm still so obsessed with the Horsetail Balm that I haven't even tried the Green Tea Balm yet, haha. I will get to you, Green Tea Balm! I'm sure you are amazing! The consistency of the Green Tea Balm is also much creamier than the Horsetail. (At this rate, we may have to dedicate a whole new blog post just to the Green Tea Balm so that it doesn't feel left out, haha.)
The part of your brain that processes a smell is directly linked to parts of your brain that are associated with memory and feelings, which is why many consider smell to be the most powerful sense. I know that the aroma of a soap is going to take me somewhere in my mind. The question is where do you want to go? Sometimes, as a woman, I may not want to wear a scent, but I do want to be near it. It can be a great idea to gift the man in your life with the soap that you would like them to smell like. There are so many ways to enrich your day-to-day experience (and the experience of others) with scent and aromatherapy.
You know that moment when it really sinks in just how much STUFF you have? That's about where we are right now. Going through all of our tools and ingredients here in the workshop and purging those things that no longer serve us has felt really good. However... we still have a ton of stuff! It is amazing to look at all these boxes and boxes of essential oils, carrier oils, botanicals, tinctures, extracts, clays, salts, essential waters and, of course, SOAPS and think about how far we've come in the past year. From making small experimental batches of soaps and cutting them with a knife, to making 5 pound batches of soap that we already know we love. From having just a few batches curing on a small shelf, to having several full curing racks at any given time.
Much like a flower that has outgrown its pot, we have been getting very cramped in this work space for a while now. Even after installing shelves from floor to ceiling, we still managed to run out of space much more quickly than we had anticipated. We hope that this transplant to our bigger pot will allow us the space to stretch out our roots and continue this rapid evolution and growth. Sometimes we think the ride is about to get bumpy, but it really just gets more interesting. ;)
Moving does not only allow us to honor our growth by jumping forward, but it also gives us the opportunity to honor our growth in a different way, by looking backward. It is a reminder of how far we've come and how much our soap family has expanded in such a short period of time. All the people we have impacted and showers we've improved and, of course, how much we have found ourselves in the shelter of these walls. It continues to be a joy for us to share our creations and discoveries with you all as we fall more and more in love with soap crafting, the art of bath therapy, and the plants that give us these tools to create with. See you on the other side!
